Troll actually ended up making a few million in theaters, which, as I said, was a rarity for my pictures. And the whole experience was a pleasure. At the same time, I had my friend Ted Nicolaou on another set shooting his feature film debut. Terrorvision was a loony, energetic comedy-horror movie that has become a cult classic in recent years. It also features Jon Gries, who would one day attain cult status of his own as Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite.

Great times. At some point I put everyone up at Corsetti Mare, a beautiful Italian beach hotel, and our nights and occasional off-days were spent partying, swimming, laughing, recharging our batteries for those loooong summer days back at the studio.

When those movies wrapped and my first magical summer as an Italian studio head had drawn to a close . . . well, that was the first time I ever threw a wrap party at my castle, and it was pretty amazing. Sure, these were B movies, but imagine finishing your shoot in Rome to find a limousine waiting for you in front of your hotel, ferrying you north, out of the city, into the surrounding hills, up a steep mountain road to your castle . . .

Well, it was even better than that: Candles and dramatic lighting and dancing on the parapets overlooking the gorgeous valley below. Multiple bars and outstanding catered food. Live music. These were fantastic events. Nobody would ever regret getting involved in an Empire picture.

Well, eventually the bank would. But that was still a few years off!
